This credential is appropriate for a paralegal or legal secretary and all others who participate in the preparation of materials for a legal practice.
JOB/CAREER REQUIREMENTS
These competencies include knowledge of technology use in the courtroom and law office; ethics implications of technology in regard to law, and software use to create and manage documents, spreadsheets, presentations and databases. These credentials document competencies that include the use of software for managing a legal office and caseloads as well as the preparation of legal documents, spreadsheets, and presentations for use in a law office or courtroom setting. Technology plays an increasingly important role in discovery and during litigation with implication on legal ethics.
LAW OFFICE TECHNOLOGY WORKPLACE TASKS:
Prepare affidavits or other documents, such as legal correspondence, and organize and maintain documents in an electronic filing system.
Prepare for trial by performing tasks such as organizing electronic presentations and exhibits.
Support the efficient running of the law office including managing schedules, court calendars, and time tracking systems.
Use software to analyze and manage litigation caseloads.
Conduct legal research using electronic databases.
Manage and secure data as part of the discovery process.
