NWCA recognizes that knowledge, skills, and abilities are developed through real-world experiences. When you participate in an NWCA-approved externship, your time working can be applied toward an NWCA credential.
Recognizing that the best knowledge for your future career can only be gained on the job, NWCA Externship Credentials were developed to provide a meaningful, hands-on experience working side-by-side with potential co-workers under the supervision of an experienced professional in your field. NWCA has developed strong partnerships with educational institutions and employers to determine exactly what skills are needed on the job. Armed with this analysis, we created comprehensive, job-specific checklists of practical experiences for you to undertake alongside applicable performance evaluations that ensure you're ready to start a new job in your field from day one.
If you're looking for a new career, externship experiences can be coordinated via CampusEd, so register today to get started! Once placed with one of our participating employer partners, your on-site supervisor will assist you in learning on-the-job skills and gaining the practical experience employers are looking for. As part of this experience, you'll have the opportunity to earn an NWCA externship credential signifying to potential employers that you have experience in a real-world workplace setting and have the hands-on skills you'll need on the job. Externship experiences are available in a variety of disciplines including Healthcare, Information Technology (IT), Web Development, Law, Criminal Justice, Arts, Business and Accounting, as well as a variety of Skilled Trades opportunities including Diesel Technician. Your externship coordinator will guide you through the placement process, help with your resume, and coach you along the way to ensure that your externship experience is as valuable as possible to both you and your future employer!
Each NWCA externship credential is earned by completing a comprehensive checklist that outlines the skills required for success on the job in that field. Working with your externship coordinator you'll document the tasks you complete and get valuable feedback you can use to improve your abilities in your chosen career.
