Developing Visual Literacy

Art Appreciation credentials document competencies including knowledge of world art, fine and applied art, painting, sculpture, design, and crafts. Though many positions in art appreciation require appropriate education at various levels and additional training, a fundamental understanding of art provides foundational knowledge that supports many aspects of daily of tasks and decision-making for artists, teachers, librarians, curators, musicians, designers, and researchers. Specifically, this badge demonstrates the earner's ability to explain visual art, including the difference between subject matter and content, the meaning of representational art, a description of the form of an artwork, and iconography.
