PURPOSE
The Music Appreciation credential is designed to document the essential competencies for those that work in the field of music or those professionals that apply music knowledge in their day-to-day work tasks.
AUDIENCE
This credential is appropriate for those involved with music therapy, direction, composition, arrangement, education, production, and musicians.
JOB/CAREER REQUIREMENTS
The Music Appreciation credential documents competencies that include activities surrounding music such as therapy, direction, composition, creation, arrangement, development of education materials, teaching, singing, instrument repair, writing, research, curation, and engineering.
MUSIC APPRECIATION WORKPLACE TASKS:
- Compose or arrange music for performances.
- Record and mix speech, music, and other sounds on recording media, using recording equipment.
- Organize music therapy activities to positively influence behavior.
- Direct or conduct musical performances.
- Write and transcribe musical scores.
- Play musical instruments or sing in musical groups.
- Teach courses in drama, music, or the arts.
- Conduct and lead musical groups.
- Repair musical instruments.
- Create original written work for performance.
- Assist behind the scenes with musical theater.
- Program and broadcast via terrestrial and satellite radio.
