PURPOSE
The Student Success credential documents the essential competencies for general study skills and learning strategies for post-secondary educational endeavors, for basic professional skills required in college and the workplace, job search skills needed for an entry level position or career advancement, basic skills related to wellness and stress management, and advanced critical thinking skills.
AUDIENCE
This credential is appropriate for students who are starting or already in college or preparing to enter some other type of post-secondary learning environment as well as those in the workplace who want to advance their career learning and workplace skills. It is also appropriate for those who are involved with educating and training academic and workplace students so that they can best assist their learners developing skills and strategies for student success. It is also an ideal credential for education and training professionals who work with academic students.
JOB/CAREER REQUIREMENTS
This credential documents competencies related to being a successful learner either in the college, training, or workplace environment. Successful students at every level must master basic strategies such as an identification of learning styles, effective reading and communication skills, effective note taking and memory enhancement strategies, test taking skills, and advanced critical thinking skills required in any academic or workplace setting. Educators and trainers must understand these skills and strategies in order to design effective learning materials and assist their students in being effective learners.
SUCCESSFUL STUDENT WORKPLACE TASKS:
- Students at all levels (academic, training, and general workplace learning) must know how to apply their knowledge of learning styles optimize their learning in various situations.
- Business professionals in charge of education and training projects must ensure that their educational materials are developed appropriately for all learning styles.
- Students at all levels and workplace professionals are often required to read extensively, take notes, and retain information in long-term memory.
- Students at all levels and workplace professionals take exams on academic, training, and certification type materials.
- Students at all levels and workplace professionals frequently communicate with others and must do so effectively for success.
- Students at all levels and workplace professionals must apply general skills and hone personal characteristics that lead to success in a variety of settings.
