PURPOSE
The Theater Externship badge documents the acquisition of practical skills and experience necessary for those that work in theater or those professionals that apply knowledge of the theater in their day-to-day work tasks.
AUDIENCE
This credential is appropriate for set and exhibit designers, sound engineering technicians, motion picture projectionists, general theater and theater operations managers, theater educators, actors, producers, directors, and audio and video equipment technicians.
JOB/CAREER REQUIREMENTS
Credentials in Theater signify earners' competencies in general drama to include set design, acting, directing, producing, audio recording, theater equipment operation, coordination of theatrical business tasks, course instruction, and design of educational materials.
THEATER WORKPLACE TASKS:
The Externship badge confirms the earner's continued and successful practice of the following tasks demonstrating their ability to:
- Develop set designs based on evaluation of scripts, budgets, research information, and available locations.
- Record speech, music, and other sounds on recording media, using recording equipment.
- Operate equipment to show films in theaters.
- Direct and coordinate activities of theater business.
- Prepare course materials in drama and theater.
- Instruct courses in drama and theater.
- Study and rehearse roles from scripts to interpret, learn, and memorize lines, stunts, and cues as directed.
- Coordinate activities of writers, directors, managers, and other personnel in theater.
- Oversee the work of camera, lighting, design, and sound crew members.
- Greet patrons attending entertainment events.
