PURPOSE
The Physical Fitness and Health Professional Externship badge documents the acquisition of practical skills and experience necessary for fitness trainers and instructors.
AUDIENCE
This credential is appropriate for individuals who work as fitness trainers, exercise instructors, coaches, recreation workers, and activity directors and assistants. Many other professionals that assist people in improving their physical fitness and nutrition as a part of their job through training and education may benefit from this credential.
JOB/CAREER REQUIREMENTS
The physical fitness and health professional assists individuals in improving their strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness as well as improve their diet to support increased exercise, sport training, weight management, and general health.
PHYSICAL FITNESS & HEALTH WORKPLACE REQUIREMENTS
The Externship badge confirms the earner's continued and successful practice of the following tasks demonstrating their ability to:
Educate clients or groups in fitness, exercise, and sport training, safety and injury prevention, and measurement
Assess various areas of physical fitness including muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, cardiovascular endurance, and body composition
Develop fitness plans for individuals to improve one or more areas of physical fitness and diet
Assist others in improving diet and nutrition behavior for weight loss, weight gain, disease prevention or maintenance, or general health
Assist others in managing stress through exercise, diet, and stress management strategies
Assist others in using fitness to help in overcoming addiction and substance abuse problems
Educate clients or groups in health-related topics such as addiction and substance abuse, sexually transmitted diseases, stress management, cardiovascular disease, etc.
